November 19th, 2008 | by admin |Southeast Alaska, sometimes called ‘panhandle’, is a land of deep fjords, rushing mountain rivers and glaciers. Most of the land is in the Tongass National Forest. Summers are cool and wet, cold and snowy winter, but much lower than the cold part of Alaska is not warmed to the ocean. Salmon return in large numbers, thousands of streams. Halibut move into coastal waters during the summer. Several species of trout are available. A variety of bottom-dwelling fish can be caught. Shrimp and crabs can be found in some waters.
